The fourth graders used K’NEX Stem Kits to learn about simple machines. Some of the projects they built were a wheelbarrow, a rubber band race car, and a well. The students discovered less effort force was needed to lift a roll of pennies when it was placed near the fulcrum of the lever. Students also tested the difference between a small rod and large rod to lift a bucket out of a well. They learned it takes fewer rotations when a large rod was used. The kids enjoyed the hands-on learning activities.
